July 15 - To Winona

Our ride today circled Lake Pepin, tributaries of the Mississippi, and went through small towns. We crossed over the Mississippi in Minnesota, into Wisconsin, and back over the Mississippi to Wisconsin to reach our final destination, Winona.

The county road signs in Wisconsin are unusual. Roads signs are all in letters of the alphabet and once the first 26 are used, double letters and then triple letters indicate the road. Google maps are having a difficult time finding these alphabet labeled roads.

Our support vehicle met us for lunch in Buffalo City and I took Minion off my bike so he could lunch with the group. By noon temperatures reached 88 and by the time I arrived in Winona the bank sign read 98. We were "baking" in the sun on highway shoulders for over half of our 58 mile ride.

I always find it amazing how our bodies recover so quickly from our rides. We took our luggage inside, went to the grocery store, prepared dinner for 17, showered, and placed finishing touches on the meal.

  1. I've been posting comments but they don't seem to work. Maybe this one will. Glad you're having a wonderful time; too bad about the severely hot weather. Stay safe.
