August 4 - Murals on the way to Baldwinsville, NY

Our route today seemed like it would be boring following the same Route 31east for 49 miles but it was not. Going through small towns, we spotted artistic murals on the sides of buildings. I began to realize that each mural represented the pride of the townspeople though these art projects.

In the town of Clyde, the mural was titled "Looking in and Looking back."The original building was built in 1851 and was the business establishment for the Ben Franklin Variety store, the Clyde newspaper, a Masonic temple, and many others. Today, the Clyde Hardware Store is in this location.

The mural in Savannah is a celebration of where history meets nature. The city, established in 1824, is an agricultural center resulting from marsh lands that were turned into productive fields.

The mural in Weedsport is titled "The Four Freedoms" - freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want, freedom from fear. These were the goals that Franklin Roosevelt proposed in his 1941 State of the Union address.
