Traditions are very important in our family. Ellen used three prayer shawls (tallitot) - from my father, Martin's father and Martin's grandfather - to cover the Torah. The Torah was hand carried from New Jersey by their close friend, Toby. Toby had purchased the Torah in memory of her mother. Their rabbi, Phil Lieberman, was at Adina's bat mitzvah in Israel and is a long time friend of the family.
The date of Ryan's bar mitzvah is also the 18th anniversary of Ellen and Michael. Eighteen or Chai in Hebrew is a significant number in Jewish life for it's meaning. Chai means TO LIFE.
Susan, the picture of the bar mitzvah boy and his mom and grandfather are great! How come you weren't in it? Things are going well here, and I hope I am going to keep up the good work. Love, Mom

ReplyDeleteHi Susan ... what a great job you're doing ... I'm proud to know you! If you have a second, check out www.jewish-retailer.com ... I've posted part of your letter with a promise to the readers that there will be more upon your return ... as soon as you've recouped and gotten the show out of the way. Gorgeous necklace from Martin and a "gorgeouser" note.
ReplyDeleteBest,
Ellie
btw - do you have a roommate for the NY show?
Your blog is great. Is there a way you can compile it into a picture book when you get back? I mean, an uncomplicated way? Mazal Tov on Ryan's Bar Mitzvah.
