July 11 - Hills on the way to L'Anse-Saint-Jean

In all my cycling adventures I have never experienced hills like today. Cycling 45 miles in this terrain was difficult. The roads were steep, long and continuous. The grade of the road was at least 13. The reward was the accomplishment, the beauty of the surroundings, and our final destination.

July 10 - St. Simeon

The ferry arrived in St. Simeon around 4, sun shining.  We had time to enjoy a walk along the beach and relax.  I wish my camera could have captured the magnificent purple sky at dusk.

I'm sharing this trip with old and new friends.  Ziva, Chuck and I went across the United States in 2010 and met the following year to cycle the Kentucky Hundred. Note the wonderful colorful shirts from the Kentucky ride.  Ziva and Margaret are cycling with Barbara Rainwater from Arizona.

July 9 - Fun part of the Day

Canada seems to be extremely biker friendly with many hotels welcoming cyclists.  I've seen lots of different bicycle stands but never one like this one made from original bicycle parts.

Friends always ask how we do our laundry on the ride. This photo shows our creative outdoor drying rack for our padded cycling shorts!

July 9 - On the way to Kampuraski

What a wonderful day - views of the flax fields, driftwood along the St. Lawrence River and the night sky of Kamouraski.

Our 60 mile ride was challenging, winds gusted up to 40 miles per hour at times. Fortunately, some of the time the winds were on our backs, helping us to pedal faster than normal.

July 8 - My 69th Birthday

I was surprised this evening with a birthday cake topped with a 4th of July sparkler and two cards filled with special birthday wishes from everyone.

On one of the "off the beaten path" roads, I found a very special miniature playhouse just my size. What a fantastic day this had been.
